The music of Shostakovich and Weinberg are full of humanity, burning emotion and exciting Drama in common.  But while the deeply pessimistic Trio of Shostakovich consoles only by the thought that people do not stop in their quest for good even in the face of death, Weinberg’s Trio elicits hope, the quest for good being the self-preservation instinct which will save mankind.

The difference can be explained both by the fact that Shostakovich wrote his trio before the end of the war and Weinberg his thereafter, and by the difference in their characters.
